A large area warehouse fire occurred last night in Hammonton, Atlantic County. Companies had a reported 500′ by 500′ building upon arrival, with multiple add-ons to the main building and exposures. There was a report of two workers being rescued from the building. The fire located on Pine Road off of Route 30 was near the Hammonton Fire Department headquarters fire station which is located on Route 30 just west of Route 54 and 206. The building was well involved upon arrival and extra alarms and tender task forces were requested and dispatched to the scene. This building is located in a rural area of Hammonton and water for the fire was a top priority from the beginning of the fire suppression effort. Trailers that were parked next to the building were also involved as the fire grew in intensity. The Atlantic County Filed Communications vehicle was also on scene.
Rehab 13 was dispatched at 2155 hrs. and were in service all night and returned from the scene by about 0730 hrs. on Friday morning. Rehab 13 responded with three apparatus and 8 personnel with the Mule UTV off road vehicle which transported food and supplies to the entire fire-ground, transported personnel, and provided a rest and recovery area with hot foods, snack foods, cold beverages, cooling towel stations, a rest room facility, and scene lighting for over 8 hours until being released at 0534 hrs.
Rehab 13 returned to station and had a 2 hour clean-up and re-supply effort to get back in service and also hosted the Child Safety seat Program at the station at 0900 hrs. until 1200 hrs. It was long night and the members of Rehab 13 on the assignment went above and beyond the call of duty to provide support for all of the the 1st Responders involved in this large incident.
The fire origin and cause had not be determined by the time we were released from the scene.
This response was our first incident in Hammonton, NJ and is significant in that this was the first time for us to handle a structure fire incident in Atlantic County. It should also be noted the the company that built our two main apparatus is located in Hammonton, NJ – Custom Mobile Foods, Inc. on 2nd Avenue.
We were requested to a fire on the Black Horse Pike a few years ago but found out the next day that the request was never forwarded to Camden County Fire Communications. We are always available for incident support and take great pride in “Serving Those Who Serve.”
