At approximately 1930 hrs. January 7, 2019 BLS 1393 and Virtua ALS responded to the unit block of Brae Lane in the Old Orchard section of Cherry Hill with a male patient with numbness on the right side. He was transported to Virtua Marlton and after signs and symptoms were checked, it was determined that patient was indeed having a stroke on the left side affecting the right side of the body.
After a tele-conference with the on duty neurologist – the use of the clot busting drug TPA was approved and administered. The patient was then transported to the helipad at Virtua Voorhees and flown to HUP by Pennstar.
With that in mind the former Chief (one of two founding members of Rehab 13) was in the hospital and Kessler Rehab from January 7th to January 24th when he was released to go home. He had two more weeks of in home OT and PT. He is in outpatient physical and occupational rehab at Kessler Rehab beginning February 27th.
The prognosis if for near 1oo% recovery, but it be a slow uphill battle to re-establish the connections from the brain to the right arm, hand, and leg.
That patient is me, the Former Chief and website manager for Rehab 13.
Currently, the Rehab 13 website and Facebook page are not up to date and will be caught up as more time passes and my skills improve.
Thanks to all for the cards and support during this very frustrating health issue.
Do not take life for granted, it can slip away in a split second.
Stay safe everyone.
