At around 0915 hrs. this Monday morning the building fire box was dispatched for the 1200 block of Marlkress Road for the building fire. The incident is only about 1/2 mile from fire headquarters on Marlkress Road and Battalion 13 and L 34 arrived in minutes to a heavy smoke and fire conditions showing to the C side of the building. A natural gas powered trash dumpster vehicle was well involved at the rear of the building just as the driver was preparing to empty the dumpster. An explosion was heard and felt at fire headquarters just prior to the dispatch of the box. Companies led off with a 2 1/2″ monitor at a safe distance to knock down the fire. Fire impinged on the rear wall of the building and smoke from the fire got inside the building requiring the special call for MVU 1 to the scene to assist with smoke evacuation from the building.
Rehab 13 was dispatched on the assignment at 0932 hrs. and were short staffed this day and responded with (3) personnel and Rehab 13 and U 1386. Cherry Hill EMS members assisted Rehab 13 personnel at the scene upon arrival and our Thanks goes out to Cherry Hill EMS for their help at this incident. Rehab 13 provided hydration, hot food, snack foods, cooling area with water mister set up for personnel cool down, along with (58) Sqwinchers, (226) MVP, (192) bottles of water, (88) hot dogs, (8) cheeseburgers, (8) honey mustard chicken sandwiches, (6) folding chairs, (36) cooling towels, and (2) folding tables were also deployed. Rehab 13 was on scene from 0951 hrs. until 1404 hrs. when released by 1300.
The fire origin and cause is under investigation.
