On this morning at 1057 hrs. Rehab 13 was dispatched to the 400 block of Evesham Road for the building fire. Companies on the box had a one story mixed occupancy 150′ by 50’with fire showing through the roof. The working fire box, the all hands, and the 2nd alarm followed in rapid succession. This building is located in the Short Hills shopping center complex that was the scene of (2) other building fires previous to this one in the building that faces Evesham Road.
The fire was in an advanced stage upon arrival and all companies were placed in a defensive attack mode due to the volume of fire and the construction type (wood truss roof) with sections of roof and wall collapse as the fire progressed. Multiple master streams and ground monitors were placed in service for fire knock down and control.
Rehab 13 responded with (6) personnel and (2) apparatus and were positioned on Evesham Road just east of the fire building. The following was provided: (50) MVP sports drinks, (60) bottles of water, (6) pots of coffee, (2) pots of hot chocolate, (80) 100% beef hot dogs with potato rolls, (4) cheeseburgers, (20) honey mustard chicken sandwiches, (1/2) box Oreo cookies, (1/2) box of assorted nuts, (12) cotton cooling towel, (1) 6′ table, (1) aluminum tray for food transport, (2) 10′ by 10′ EZ ups were deployed, the restroom was in use as well as our multiple cell phone charger. Rehab 13 was on scene from 1119 hrs until being released by Cherry Hill command at 1434 hrs. Rehab 13 returned to quarters and all equipment was restored and supplies restocked by 1600 hrs.
The fire origin and cause is under investigation by local and county investigators.
