It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James J. Arpino, Sr., of the Deer Park Fire Company over the weekend. He died peacefully at his home in Gloucester Township. Jim was an active member of the Deer Park Fire Company since 1964 – where he achieved the rank of Station Captain and served as the Deputy Fire Marshal. He was an active member of the newly formed Rehab 13 unit from its start-up in 2004. Jim also served as a Fire Commissioner and Trustee and was a well respected competent leader and was a big part of the newly formed Rehab 13. Jim also served as a Special Police Officer in Gloucester Township, and as a Security Guard at West Jersey Hospital in Marlton.
Jim was also the store manager for Atlantic Thrift and Two Guys in Marlton prior to working for Cherry Hill Township Public Works.
Jim was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, and has a son and daughters, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of them are serving in the Camden County fire service at Voorhees, Somerdale, and Oaklyn. Jim’s nickname was “Sarge,” a named he earned during his service to our country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Only his closest friends and family knew of his service and bravery during that conflict. He kept most of those stories private.
In his last years Jim had moved out of Cherry Hill but still maintained his contributing membership by attendance at many of our Special Assignments and was our Sergeant of arms during all business meetings until his passing. He attended the last business meeting on July 17, 2017 and let us know that he was not doing well and was concerned about his health. Sadly, that was the last time we would see him and he passed away right before the beginning of this week.
Jim was born in 1930 which made him 86 years of age. He gave many of those years (53) to he Deer Park Fire Company and Rehab 13 and to the citizens of Cherry Hill Township and the firefighters and citizens of the (4) county area that Rehab 13 serves.
To Jim Jr. and his extended family, your dad’s service was greatly appreciated and he will be missed!
To Jim Arpino, Sr., you’ve done your duty well. Rest in peace sir, we’ll take it from here.
