A heavy column of smoke was seen by a passer-by and the Tack Force box was struck @ 1252 hrs. for the 300 block of Third Avenue in Bellmawr. Additional calls were also received at Camden County Communications of the rear of the house on fire, and occupants leaving via the 2nd floor windows of the 2 story wood frame single family dwelling.
Arriving companies had a heavy fire condition from the C side of the dwelling and beginning to go through the roof. All companies were placed in service and the “all hands” was declared bringing more companies to the scene. With the temperature at 93 F and heat index at 103 F made for a tough day for all personnel at the scene. Local EMS set up a rest and recovery are across from the fire building using an EZ Up and during the fire suppression operation Rehab 13 was dispatched to the scene for personnel support.
Rehab 13 was toned at 1330 hrs. and responded with (7) personnel and (2) apparatus to the scene to assist EMS with (2) mister fans, cooling towels, hydration in the form of water and MVP electrolyte beverages, chairs, snack foods, and hot foods. Rehab 13 opened the rest room for personnel engaged at the scene and gave out (144) MVP drinks, (72) bottles of water, (60)frozen Sqwincher pops, (24) hot dogs, and numerous snack foods. Rehab 13 operated at the scene from 1408 hrs. until 1658 rs. when released by Command.
Rehab 13 returned to station re-supply and clean up and was ready for service by 1800 hrs.
The fire did burn through the roof and all occupants were reported to be okay.
The fire’s cause and origin s under investigation at this time.
