At 2051 hrs. on Sunday night Rehab 13 was dispatched to the all hands apartment fire on Lower Landing Road in Station 82’s local. Companies had a second floor apartment with heavy fire showing and reports of people trapped on the initial alarm. It was reported that the occupant of the fire apartment was on his 2nd floor balcony and could not evacuate without assistance. Tha occupant was rescued and all other residents were accounted for.
Companies arrived and established an interior attack and a water supply. During the fire crews were give the evacuation order due to conditions and a defensive attack followed with master streams and once the fire was knocked crews re-entered to complete extinguishing the fire. Crews entered the B and D side exposures to check for extension and nothing significant was found. In this case the fire walls held the fire to the apartment of origin, however smoke and water damage occurred in adjoining units.
Rehab 13 responded to the scene with 6 personnel and tow units to provide hot and cold liquids, snacks, and the rest room facilities for 1st Responders and civilians displaced during the fire. U1386 housed several bird cages in the heated crew area until the Red Cross was able to arrange for temporary housing for the occupants affected by the fire.
Rehab 13 was on scene from 2125 hrs. to 2356 hrs when released by 820 to return to re-supply.
There was one injury, minor burns reported by a 1st Responder on the scene.
The fire origin and cause is under investigation at this time.
